Airdrop Guide for Windows

To receive an Atomflow airdrop you have to:

  1. Create a key-pair (a private key and a public key) using the GNU Privacy Guard free and open source software.
  2. Send your public key to us by email, or on SimpleX or Matrix.

After sending your public key:

  • You will receive an encrypted and signed note (token) for this key with 0.25 Ely. The note entitles you to this amount of Ely once Atomflow is released.
  • Once released, the amount of Ely in the note will be sent to the public key you shared with us and you can spend the amount with your private key.

This guide will show you how to create the required keys and how to receive your airdrop.

Please, note that each person is entitled to a single airdrop. So we reserve the right to ask you to verify this when we see fit. We also reserve the right to send an airdrop in response to a request in our sole discretion.

Required Software

This guide requires the GNU Privacy Guard software to installed on your computer, which is an open source software that has been heavily used for encryption and decryption worldwide by people, governments and militaries since 1997. This guide describes using the official GNU Privacy Guard software, which is part of the GNU Project and is an officially supported project by the Free Software Foundation.

The link provided to download the GNU Privacy Guard software points to the official GNU Privacy Guard download website. You can easily verify this on your own.

For people not familiar with the GNU Project:

No other software is installed in this guide.

Summary

This is a step-by-step guide to generate the required keys and receive your airdrop. You will generate a key for signing and verifying messages (the signature key) and another encryption key to exchange encrypted messages with us. The signature and encryption keys will be stored together in a single file.

You will generate a key-pair: a private key and its corresponding public key. The private and public keys will be saved to separate files. The private must be kept secret for you alone. You must not share the private key with any other person, including us, and store it securely and confidentially. If you lose your private key, you will not be able to receive your airdrop.

It is recommended that you keep your public key private and only share it with us in order for us to send you the airdrop.

Install the GNU Privacy Guard software

Download the GPG software from the Gpg4win website and run the downloaded .exe file to install the software. In the component selection during installation, make sure that Kleopatra will be installed.

Create a key-pair

  1. Open the Kleopatra application from the start menu.
  2. From the File menu select New OpenPGP Key Pair.
  3. A Create OpenPGP Certificate window will open.
  4. Enter your name and email address (see the first Caution note below).
  5. Tick the Protect the generated key with a passphrase option so that the key is protected by a password (see the notes below).
  6. Expand the Advanced options menu.
  7. Make sure that Key Material is set to curve25519.
  8. For the Valid until entry, enter a date until which the key remains valid (we suggest 3 years from the current date).
  9. Click on the OK button on the bottom of the window.
  10. A window will appear to create the passphrase for the key.

After creating your key-pair, it should appear on the Certificates lists in Kleopatra.

Important

Take note of the fingerprint of the key to distinguish it from any other keys you may have.

Caution

Make sure that you can be reached on at the email address you specify because this is the only email address we will respond to if you intend to communicate with us by email and it is the email address we will send any communication to.

Important

Select a strong passphrase that no one can guess easily. We suggest a passphrase length of 16 characters or more with mixed upper-and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters.

Note

You will need to enter your passphrase twice to confirm that you are typing it without mistakes. We recommend entering the passphrase twice without using copying or pasting.

Caution

Save the passphrase securely and confidentially. Without the passphrase, you will not be able to use the key. Store the passphrase separately from the exported keys.

Export your public key

  1. Right-click on the key you have just created.
  2. Click on Export... .
  3. Select the location to save your public key (see the note below).
  4. Choose a descriptive name for your key, we recommend atomflow-airdrop-public-key.asc.
  5. Save as type must be set to OpenPGP Certificates (*.asc *.gpg *.pgp) (the default).
  6. Click Save.
Important

It is recommended to create a separate folder for Atomflow airdrop keys. We suggest Atomflow Airdrop Keys for the folder name.

Export your private key

  1. Right-click on the key you have just created.
  2. Click on Backup Secret Keys... .
  3. Select the location to save your private key (see the note below).

  5. Save as type must be set to Secret Key Files (*.asc *.gpg *.pgp) (the default).
  6. Click Save.
  7. You will be asked for the passphrase you created when you generated the key.
Important

It is recommended to create a separate folder for Atomflow airdrop keys. We suggest Atomflow Airdrop Keys for the folder name.

Important

Store your private key securely and privately after exporting it.

Import the Atomflow Airdrop key

The Atomflow Airdrop Key is the key you must use to encrypt your public key with before sending it to us and by which you verify the authenticity of your Airdrop Note as well as other data you receive from us, if any.

The Atomflow Airdrop Key details are given below.

Fingerprint : Unique and complete identifier of the key
80D571126DBA87B56306D40F63ECFDDC3C6D1BD9

URL : Link to download the key
https://atomflow.ai/keys/atomflow-airdrop-key.asc

⟹ Download the Atomflow Airdrop Key and verify its authenticity.

Note

The key can also be downloaded from OpenPGP servers https://keys.openpgp.org/vks/v1/by-fingerprint/80D571126DBA87B56306D40F63ECFDDC3C6D1BD9. Note that Edge and Chrome would download the file normally but some versions of Firefox may fail to load the URL.

⟹ Import the key into Kleopatra:

  1. Open the Kleopatra application.
  2. From the menu click on the top of the window, click Import.
  3. Locate the Atomflow Airdrop Key you have just downloaded and select it.
  4. Click the Open button.

Caution

Make sure that Kleopatra shows 80D571126DBA87B56306D40F63ECFDDC3C6D1BD9 as the fingerprint for the imported key.

Otherwise, you must not use the key and must delete it from Kleopatra and from your disk as someone may well be interfering with your network connection to lead you to believe that you will be communicating with us when you are, in fact, will be not.

Encrypt and sign your public key

You need to encrypt and sign your public key before sending it to us. To do so:

  1. Open the Kleopatra application.
  2. From the menu on the top of the window, click on Sign/Encrypt.
  3. Locate the public key you have exported earlier (atomflow-airdrop-public-key.asc) and select it.
  4. Click the Open button.
  5. A Sign/Encrypt Files window will open.

⟹ Under the Prove authenticity (sign) section

  1. Tick the Sign as option.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select the key you have just created (if in doubt, click on the + button to the right in order to verify the fingerprint of the selected key).

⟹ Under the Encrypt section

  1. Untick the Encrypt for me option
  2. Tick the Encrypt for others option.
  3. Click on the + button to the right of the drop-down next to that option.
  4. A key selection window will open.
  5. Select the Atomflow Airdrop Key.
  6. Click on the OK button on the bottom of the window.

  2. Make sure that the Encrypt / Sign each file separately is not ticked.

⟹ Finish the encryption and signing

  1. Click on the Sign / Encrypt button on the bottom of the window.

Send your encrypted public key to us

Send us the encrypted public key as an attachment in one of the ways listed below. Your message must begin with the title Airdrop Request.

  1. In an email sent from the email address your specified in your key (click to send email). To use PGP email encryption download and use the Atomflow Airdrop Email Key.
  2. In a direct chat on Matrix to @atomflow:matrix.org.
  3. In a direct chat on SimpleX to Atomflow Airdrop.
Channel security

[Simplest, Most Secure] Using SimpleX, only you and us will know that the communication has occurred. It is the only channel which allows no one else but you and us to know that you have requested an airdrop. SimpleX servers know about your IP address unless you use a VPN or Tor.

Using Matrix, the content of the communication is not known to Matrix servers but the servers know that the communication has taken place. Matrix servers cannot know that the communication was about requesting an airdrop. Matrix servers know about your IP address unless you use a VPN or Tor.

PGP encrypted email is neither complete nor very simple

Using encrypted email, the content of the communication is not known to the sending, receiving or any intermediate server but the servers know that the communication has taken place. Involved servers cannot know that the communication was about requesting an airdrop. Note that some email applications will not allow sending encrypted email to the receiver unless you trust the receiver’s key (in this case, the Atomflow Airdrop Email Key) before sending the email. If you use encrypted email to get your airdrop, we suggest that you use separate keys for email PGP keys and airdrop keys that you have created earlier.

Using unencrypted email (the default if you have not set up PGP keys for your email) allows the server to know that you have requested an airdrop. The server knows that the communication has occurred and the content of the emails exchanged.

Note that the airdrop procedure described above ensures that the keys and airdrop email attachments are encrypted but not the textual body of the email.

Even with PGP-encrypted email, the subject of the email, addresses of sender and receivers and timestamps are not encrypted.

Your email service provider associates your IP address with your account unless you use an I2P or Tor email service provider or always interact with your conventional email service provider through a VPN.

For PGP-encrypted email, you can use Thunderbird, Evolution, Enigmail, Outlook, Proton Mail or email service providers supported by browser extensions such as FlowCrypt or Mailvelope (Gmail and Outlook are supported). For Proton Mail, you have to manually upload the Atomflow Airdrop Email Key into your Proton Mail’s contacts manager. See https://proton.me/support/how-to-use-pgp under Sending PGP emails).

Receiving your airdrop

You will receive your airdrop as an encrypted note on the same channel you sent your public key to us on. The note will be signed by our private Atomflow Airdrop Key.
